Buckhorn Campground

Buckhorn Campground Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Buckhorn is a long way from anywhere, not unlike many of the lonely, sacred spots around the Blue Mountains, the Wallowa Valley, and Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. If you’re looking for a place to lose yourself, you’ve found it. The campground itself is not the centerpiece of the Buckhorn experience; that would be Hells Canyon and the Buckhorn Overlook viewpoint, one of three main lookouts into the canyon.

The campground is simply a place to pitch your tent, come back to in the evening, tell stories over the crackling campfire, and rub your sore feet after a day of hot, dusty trailblazing to which you’ve willingly subjected yourself. OK, so you’re not exactly the first person who’s been out here (or there wouldn’t even be this primitive campground), but at Buckhorn you get the feeling that you could be the last person to visit for a long time."
