Sparks Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Sparks Lake is simply one of the best paddling lakes in Oregon. Situated at the feet of South Sister, Broken Top, and Mount Bachelor, the scenic vistas are grand.

The lake offers swampy marshes, open waters, and secluded nooks and crannies. Although the lake is just over 2 miles from end to end, its convoluted shoreline is more than 10 miles long."

Excellent lake for kayaking! There are great places to explore around the lake with beautiful views of the mountains. I highly recommend it.

This is one of the most picturesque sites in the area - Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top, South Sister ringing the lake. It's a shallow lake, no more than 10' at the deepest, earliest in the season. The section closest to 97 will turn into grasslands by mid-summer. Winds come up in the afternoon, and can sweep along the snow capped mtns making it a bit chilly early in the season. Good camp sites on the lake, if you're interested in spending a night or so. Saw a cougar this last trip, and bears are also around, so be prepared! It's a great way to spend the day.
