Hosmer Lake Professional Review and Guide
"Hosmer Lake is a special place. Lying at nearly 5000 feet near the Cascades Lake Highway west of Bend, Hosmer Lake has it all: clear water, narrow channels, open water, acres of lily pads and rushes, a contorted shape, outcrops of volcanic rock, abundant wildlife, huge fish visible from your boat, and grand mountain views.
Fortunately, Hosmer Lake has been treated as the special place that it is. As a high mountain lake, Hosmer originally had no fish in it. In the 1950s, a large population of introduced carp and other “trash” fish was eliminated, and the lake was stocked with Atlantic salmon and brook trout. Today, Hosmer is the only lake west of the Mississippi where Atlantic salmon have been successfully stocked, although the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife helps out each fall by removing eggs and sperm from several inhabitants of Hosmer Lake."
