The Sandy River is very beautiful in this area. The forested canyon contains several stands of old-growth trees, and beautiful calm pools separate the fun rapids. The river is quite isolated for most of this section, which only adds to its appeal. It is a very popular stretch, with people fishing both from the bank and from drift boats. It is a pool drop run, with most of the drops clean and many surfing waves scattered along the entire stretch. Pipeline Rapid, class 3, is 0.5 mile from the put-in and should be scouted for rocks. Pull off in the eddy on the left above the visible pipe across the river. Just around the corner is High Cliff rapid. After the next calm stretch, you will encounter a long boulder garden, Blue Hole, which ends with several large waves. At medium water, a large hole develops at the end of the waves. Work right to avoid the hole. After Blue Hole are several more fun rapids separated by moving flat water.
