The Breitenbush River is spectacular, with crystal-blue water coursing through a rocky gorge. Its banks are steep and brushy most of the way, making a climb out difficult. (The road follows the river not far overhead in the case of a necessary carry or hike.) Vegetation is heavy, with logs spanning the water in locations. Log jams have been a problem in years past, but the recent floods have cleared out most of them with the exception of one necessary portage just below Cleator Bend Campground.
