Moss Springs/Horse Ranch

Moss Springs/Horse Ranch Professional Review and Guide

"This is a day hike from Moss SpringsTrailhead to the Horse Ranch,or a starter for an extended backpack in the western Wallowa Mountains. This trail accesses Ben Point, Jim White Ridge, Lower Little Minam River, as well as Upper and Lower Minam River Trails. (Trail 1908) From Moss Springs Trailhead (5,840 ft.), Moss Springs/Horse Ranch Trail heads east. It
forks 100 yards from the trailhead at the Eagle Cap Wilderness boundary. The right fork is Upper Little Minam River Trail (1942).

Take the left fork and descend to the east on mostly open, grass-covered slopes into the Little Minam Canyon. The trail passes the unmarked Ben Point Trail 0.5 mile past the wilderness boundary. Watch for bears in this area, especially in late August and September when they may be chowing down on the abundant huckleberries."
