Jim White Ridge

Jim White Ridge Professional Review and Guide

"This trail heads down Jim White Ridge from the Little Minam River Trail to Moss Springs/Horse Ranch Trail. Jim White Ridge is most easily accessed from the North Fork Catherine Creek Trailhead or Moss Springs Trailhead. Jim White Ridge Trail heads north from the junction. At first the trail climbs a grassy slope, nearly reaching the top of the ridge. The view to the east is of the Minam River canyon and the higher parts of the Wallowa Mountains. A short distance farther the trail enters a burned area. Soon it comes to the junction with Little Pot Creek Trail. There are many possible loop hikes to make from the trail; consult your map. Jim White Ridge Trail takes considerable route-finding skills.

There are a lot of huckleberry bushes. These berries ripen in late August and September and can add pleasure and nourishment to the long hike down Jim White Ridge. As is usually the case in the Wallowa Mountains, watch for bears gorging themselves on the sweet purple fruit."
