Head of the River Forest Camp Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This small campground is tucked away in a lodgepole pine forest beside the spring at the head of the Williamson River, an acclaimed crystalline water with a prized trout fishery downstream. Pole fencing defines the road and campsites; egresses in the fence provide access to the headwater and its river. Ponderosa pines cluster at the river’s head, while clumps of aquatic plants dress the spring in striking contrast to the dried grasses of the forest floor. The camp provides a quiet retreat, putting you in the company of deer, mergansers, kingfishers, and songbirds. In fall the camp serves as a hunter’s base."
