    Tanner Lakes Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Two small and beautiful glacial cirque lakes sitting on the Oregon-California border. Reaching the trailhead involves an adventurous drive through some of the prettiest country in the Oregon Siskiyous high country.

The lakes and mountain described in this chapter have always been known as “Tannen.” However, in 2002 it was discovered that they were originally named for an Illinois Valley miner, Ezra Sherman Tanner, who lived at the base of the mountain in the mid 1800s. Thanks to the hard work of Ezra Tanner’s great-granddaughter, Hazel Gendron, the mistake was brought to light and corrected (though many maps still carry the old name). No matter what you call them, both alpine lakes and indeed the entire area are remote and scenic."
