Bolan and Tannen Lakes Professional Review and Guide
"Bolan Lake sits in a pleasant little glacial cirque accessible only by unpaved road. It’s fairly popular, with a busy campground. Just before Bolan Lake, the 0.75-mile road (right) to Bolan Mountain Lookout (elevation 6,263) is very steep, with loose rock. But the payoff, the view from the lookout, is magnificent.
Highlights include rocky crags, vistas of the Illinois River Valley and Klamath River Canyon, and some beautiful alpine glacial cirque lakes. Easy gravel and dirt roads, unless you take the short side trip to Bolan Lookout, which is of moderate difficulty."
