Yamhill County Winery Ramble

Yamhill County Winery Ramble Professional Review and Guide

"This loop route takes you through the scenic oak-forested foothills of Yamhill County and past three unique wineries.

You’ll begin this tour by traveling west from Yamhill on Highway 240, which takes you through one of Oregon’s finest wine-growing regions. The northern latitude, long summer days, cool autumn, and marine air from the Coast Mountains provide a perfect environment for growing wine grapes. Oregon is host to more than 170 wineries; 40 of them are located in Yamhill County. Varietal wine grapes that thrive in this unique growing environment include pinot noir, pinot gris, chardonnay, Riesling, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, gewurztraminer, zinfandel, and sauvignon blanc. It is thought that the first wine grapes planted in Oregon were by the Jesuits in St. Paul; vines were also brought to Oregon by early settlers to the area."
