Cannon Beach

Cannon Beach Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This beach trek starts in the quaint town of Cannon Beach and heads south on a spacious sandy beach where you’ll pass 235-foot Haystack Rock. This distinct rock promontory is designated part of the Oregon Islands Wildlife Refuge and is an important nesting spot for several species of seabirds.

At low tide you can explore the tide pools at the base of Haystack Rock and then continue your beach journey to the turnaround point at Tolovana Wayside."

"The City of Cannon Beach has developed a trail system along Ecola Creek and around its sewer lagoons- wait! You know how critical sewage treatment is to the functioning of this busy town, right? Besides, the ponds and vegetation around them are a haven for birds; a city brochure lists 50 bird species commonly observed along the trail, from bald eagles and a dozen species of duck." Read more

Great beach walk! We were there at very low tide and it was fun to explore the rocks that were covered in starfish and sea urchins. Lots of tide pools! There were many people building beach bonfires and the beach is very dog friendly. Restaurants and hotels run along a section of the beach, making it easy to stop for a bite to eat or a bathroom break.

Beautiful beach with a rock island covered in birds ... Very reminiscent of the movie "The Goonies" I am a fan of the Oregon coast line.
