The Chetco River offers a wide variety of boating opportunities. The river contains two main runs and a lesser-known wilderness run along its upper reaches in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area. Upstream of Loeb State Park, the river resides with Siskiyou National Forest. The scenery here is a spectacular combination of old-growth forest and rock exposures. The whitewater section of river, including the Chetco Gorge, is remote and the wilderness section is even more so.
