Horsetail - Ponytail - Oneonta - Triple Falls Professional Review and Guide
"This route takes you past four scenic waterfalls and through a fabulous Oneonta Creek canyon in the Columbia River Gorge. Bridge crossings. This route takes you past four of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. The route begins climbing steeply and you’ll immediately be able to see the swishing action of 176-foot Horsetail Falls. After a short jaunt of steep climbing, you’ll arrive at the refreshing cascade of Ponytail Falls, which plunges over a basalt ledge into a deep rock pool. The trail takes you behind the falls, so you can view the falls from a different perspective. As you continue cranking up the hill, you’ll cross Oneonta Creek on a footbridge over stunning Oneonta Gorge and have a fantastic view of Oneonta Falls. After crossing the bridge the steep grade continues along Oneonta Creek past stunning canyon scenery. After 2.2 miles you’ll arrive at a bridge that crosses Triple Falls. After crossing the bridge you’ll continue on the trail as it heads uphill through an astounding mossy green forest for another mile to a footbridge crossing over Oneonta Creek (your turnaround point)."

If you like waterfalls, five stars. Four waterfalls and a gorge. The trail (like most in the Gorge) is fairly steep, and the waterfalls are breathtaking. After you get to Triple Falls, be sure to hike (at least) the extra five minutes to the bridge where you can enjoy a wondrous display of water over mossy rocks. Many people on the trail; restrooms just east at Ainsworth State Park.
I AM A BEGINNER HIKER BUT COULD DO THE LOOP
FROM HORSETAIL TO PONYTAIL FALLS AND DOWN TO
THE ONEONTA TRAIL HEAD. WILL SAVE TRIPLE
FALLS FOR ANOTHER WEEKEND. INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL!
