The Dome

The Dome Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Gearhart Mountain Wilderness is a gem. Surrounded by the rich oldgrowth pines of the Fremont National Forest, Gearhart is a unique wilderness with distinctive peaks, cliffs, and monoliths that receives few visitors. One such monolith is The Dome. Rising 400 feet above the trail, The Dome is a weathered hunk of nearly vertical rock. The Dome is a wonderful access point for this scramble among a series of outcrops and cliffs that run west for nearly a mile.

The approach hike along the Gearhart Mountain Trail includes abundant wildflowers and stately ponderosa pines. Once above the trees, scramblers will enjoy an unusual perspective on this wilderness playground. Special considerations: The Gearhart Mountain Wilderness map covers both USGS maps and has 20-foot contours."
