Three Shelters Loop

Three Shelters Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Deschutes National Forest is dotted with primitive log shelters throughout its high elevations. The Oregon National Guard built many of these huts as part of its training regimen for members during the 1980s.

Called “forward bunkers” at the time, these small but stout structures have morphed over the years into key destination points and warming huts for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling outings in the winter. Local Nordic groups now maintain and repair the shelters as well as stock them with ?rewood during the winter-recreation season."
