The Swampy Lakes trail system is about 15 miles east of Bend. Tread: about 3 miles of the loop are on dirt roads. The rest is well-maintained singletrack. Hazards: Trails close to Bend receive moderate-to-heavy use during summer, especially on weekends. Control your speed on the steep descent north of Swampy Lakes Shelter. The trail has many exposed roots and rocks.
