This camp occupies a cutover stand of pines and offers access to area trails and jeep tracks for horseback riding, hiking, and all-terrain-vehicle travel. Although the terrain appears relatively flat, the camp occupies the skirt of Newberry Volcano, which shows a steady, gradual incline to the caldera rim. Swamp Wells Trail travels 9 miles south to the crater; the trail’s northern destination is Horse Butte.
