Newberry National Volcanic Monument: Little Crater Professional Review and Guide
"This camp stretches for 0.5 mile through lodgepole pines along the east shore of Paulina Lake, one of two big, clear, azure-blue lakes cradled in Newberry Crater; East Lake is the other. A shoreline trail rings Paulina Lake, traversing forest, obsidian flow, and slopes dotted with junipers and manzanitas. In addition to lake views, the trail serves up fine looks at craggy Paulina Peak on the southern skyline. The Peter Skene Ogden and Paulina Falls Trails explore the banks of the outlet. Boating (10 miles per hour speed limit), fishing, birding, mountain biking, horseback riding, and sightseeing are other potential pastimes. The winding, sometimes rough drive to the top of Paulina Peak delivers a jaw-dropping vista of the Cascade volcanoes, the caldera lakes, Paulina Pinnacles, and Fort Rock."
