A combination of wetland and open water, Hosmer Lake is a picturesque place to canoe. Birders and naturalists also are drawn here. The lake is stocked with trout and Atlantic salmon for catch-and-release fly fishing only. The upper segment of the lake is three to four times bigger than the lower lake; the open water reflects Mount Bachelor and Red Crater. The camp is in a tranquil forest of lodgepole pines and firs, and Elk Lake is close by (only about 5 miles to the north) for swimming, sailboarding, or watching the sun set from its Sunset View Picnic Area.
