LaPine State Park South Loop

LaPine State Park: South Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The state of Oregon is known for its towering timber, and LaPine State Park is home to one such ancient wooden giant. The 500-year-old Oregon Heritage Tree, appropriately nicknamed the Big Tree, is the largest ponderosa pine in Oregon, with a whopping circumference of 28 feet 11 inches.

It used to be the tallest as well, at 191 feet, until a storm took its crown (literally) down to its current 162-foot height. On the South Loop, you’ll run by for a close-up of the famous pine, along with several great overlooks of the
Deschutes River along the way."
