The trailhead at Lava Island is about 10 miles south of Bend. Tread: singletrack and dirt road, well-maintained. Hazards: Heavy traffic necessitates that riders proceed cautiously. If the traffic on the trail becomes unbearable, try riding the roads that parallel the trail. The trail hugs several cliffs above the Deschutes River.
