Anthony Lakes

Anthony Lakes Professional Review and Guide

"The groomed, high-elevation, cross-country trail system at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort in northeast Oregon is a jewel unknown to most Oregon skiers. A mix of easy inner trails and roller-coaster outer trails creates as much opportunity for fun as can be found at larger ski areas.

A new, 11-kilometer (7-mile) road loop, groomed on weekends and holidays, reaches open vistas and offers easy long-distance skiing. Reliable dry snow, stunning views of the rugged peaks of Elkhorn Ridge, and lots of sunshine are taken for granted here. The Elkhorns extend southeast from the Blue Mountains. Their sharp features indicate that they are much younger mountains than the more rounded Blues. Situated at more than 7100 feet, Anthony Lakes is the highest, regularly groomed, cross-country ski area in Oregon."

"Anthony Lakes Recreation Area is located high in the Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon. About one mile of the trip is on forest roads, the rest is on trails. The route involves a two-mile loop and two out-and-back spurs. The out-and-back portions of the trip are 4.4 miles long and .6 mile long.

Included in the outing are 2.7 miles of fine single-track on Elkhorn Crest Trail. Skilled technical riders will love the challenging mix of rocks, big check dams, and roots that this trail throws their way. Anthony Lakes is located approximately 35 miles northwest of Baker City."

Fantastic ride from the Anthony Lakes campground. We rode from our campsite! Quite beautiful singletrack with some challenging climbs (I had to hike-a-bike in sections, but my husband rode 99% of the ascent). The views from the wilderness boundary were spectacular, and the downhill was the icing in the cake! It was also an appropriate length for our two middle aged australian shepherds as well, with several streams for them to cool off in. A great short challenging ride, only wish we could have ridden into the wilderness area.

It was very muddy and a grueling climb. not for the unskilled biker. worth going if you know what your doing. Wouldn't recomend until later in the year.
