Upper Thomas Creek is remote, and its banks are steep with little access except at bridges. Roads are gravel and dirt along the upper creek. Several branches loop and intertwine throughout the area, evidence of logging activity. The most difficult gradients and water lie in the 5 miles of creek above the Criminal Creek confluence. The upper creek contains mostly Class III water with two Class IV drops and a portage at Jordan Dam. The lower creek is a lovely float on Class I - I+ water with several historic covered bridges.
