Crabtree Creek: South Fork Bridge to South Santiam River Professional Review and Guide
"This forested area has only moderate population with thick vegetation along the banks. The rapids on the upper creek can be surprisingly deceptive. Debris and rocks seem to be placed in the most unexpected places. Currents can be pushier than they look. The upper creek is almost solidly lined with downed trees from the 1996 floods; this drainage was one of the hardest hit areas. Paddlers should be extra cautious, watching for strainers and submerged logs. In many places water has gouged out the banks, uplifting large gravel bars and redepositing them in several places. Some of the gravel bars look as if they were dug into the creek by heavy machinery to divert the flow. They certainly do not look natural."
