Van Wert County Fairgrounds Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Like most fairgrounds, this one can serve as a base camp for exploring the surrounding area. You can also tie a visit to several interesting events right on the grounds. The Van Wert County Historical Museum holds an annual Railroad Heritage Weekend in July focusing on model trains. There are railroad-related entertainment and demonstrations and refreshments. Often on that same weekend the Van Wert Amateur Radio Club holds its “Hamfest,” a celebration of shortwave radio. You can see electronics, radio gear, computers and software, and view demonstrations on how it all works. Perhaps the biggest event outside of the fair is the annual Apple Festival. Held in Oct, it draws thousands of people. They come for the crafts, wagon rides, entertainment and kids games, and most of all for the apples. There’s cider, pie, dumplings, and butter, along with all kinds of other food."
