Lamping Homestead Professional Review and Guide
"The Lamping Homestead camping area is quite simply lovely. It’s the northernmost of four campgrounds that make up the Covered Bridge Scenic Byway. The byway follows SR 26 from Marietta to Woodsfield, paralleling the Muskingum River for most of the way and passing many covered bridges. It’s wonderfully scenic country. This particular campground was originally the homestead of the Lamping family in the 1830s and a small cemetery nearby is testament to how rough life must have been for those early pioneers. Today, it’s a peaceful place to relax and enjoy some nature-based fun. There are certainly a lot of options when it comes to activities. There’s a 5-mile trail that can be hiked or biked, though cyclists must secure a permit from the state forest to use it and can only ride Apr 15–Dec 15. Two other loop trails, one 1.5 miles long and one 3.5, are open to hikers only."
