Rockbridge State Nature Preserve

Rockbridge State Nature Preserve Professional Review and Guide

"Visit the largest natural bridge in the Buckeye State amid this protected special swath of the greater Hocking Hills. Travel a right- of- way to reach the 200-acre preserve. Downhill meanderings lead to the significant arch.

Walk over, under, and around it, reveling in numerous vantages. Make a side trip to the nearby Hocking River. Next, visit a rock house and low- flow waterfall on a separate loop before returning to the trailhead."

"Getting a good look at Ohio’s largest natural bridge requires a 1-mile trek along a mowed corridor flanked by brushy field edges. Escape the farm fields and climb up a root- and rock-strewn dirt trail through mixed hardwood forest. Drop over the top of the hill and enter a wooded valley to find the preserve’s main feature stretching across a creek ravine nearly out of sight from the trail. Leave the bridge and wind your way up to a neighboring hilltop, with the option to hike the Rock Shelter Trail (an extra 0.75 mile ) from the peak. Either way, re-cross the first forest valley to the entry corridor and retrace your steps back to the trailhead."
