Mount Gilead State Park Hike Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This state park trek, located just outside the quaint town of Mount Gilead, presents a loop touring a variety of terrain, from lakeshore and creek bottom to hills and wetlands. Start the hike by cruising the shore of Mount Gilead Lake, then turn up Whetstone Creek. The excursion wanders amid a tight trail network before returning to Mount Gilead Lake. It then traverses scenic high bluffs above the impoundment and circles the upper drainage and wetlands of Sams Creek.
The final leg of the hike leads through the park’s campground and day- use facilities, along park roads, before returning to the trailhead. Consider bringing camping gear and make an overnighter of it, including a venture into town."
