Washington County Fairgrounds Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This fairgrounds is right next to the Muskingum River and a boat launch, so you can stay here and hike, bike, fish, and boat. There are a number of other trails and birding areas nearby, too. But if you come here, leave yourself some time to explore the area’s Underground Railroad historic sites. There are many in Washington County and in the area immediately beyond. Some are private residences and not open to the public, but many can be seen and explored. One is Blennerhassett Island State Historical Park (www .blennerhassettislandstatepark .com). It’s actually in West Virginia, but it’s only a short drive away. Open May–Oct, it features a museum, restored mansion, horse-drawn wagon rides, bike rentals, nature walks, and more. The fact that you get to the island via a stern-wheeler cruise makes the trip especially fun."
