Rim and Gorge Trails

Rim and Gorge Trails Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"One of the state’s best trails, Conkles Hollow provides a rarity in Ohio: vistas. From sandstone overlooks, view the hollow, rock outcroppings, and forested ridges unfolding into the distance. Walk around the rim of this beautiful hollow, and be sure to hike the Gorge Trail as well, where wildflowers bloom in springtime profusion. A hemlock forest, diverse wildlife, and a waterfall are other attractions along this 3.1 -mile trail system.

One of Ohio's most scenic hikes, Conkles Hollow offers the Rim Loop Trail, which loops 200 feet above the gorge, affording views of nearby and faraway ridges, waterfalls, forests, and sandstone outcroppings. This is not a trail for those with a fear of heights."

These woods had a very old feel to them, though it is not a virgin forest. The boardwalk under the overhanging cliff was beautiful. It isn't a strenuous hike, even if you do all 5 1/2 mi. or so, but you will be walking through swampland, getting eaten alive by mosquitoes, and I ended up taking 10 deer ticks off my body. The highlight was the waterfall, but there was a lot of other beauty so it's hard to compare.
