South Loop of the Logan Trail

South Loop of the Logan Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Tar Hollow State Forest, deep in the Appalachian foothills, is the setting for this long circuit that dares hikers with 3,600 feet of elevation changes stretched out over 8-plus miles. But you will be well rewarded on this major hike. Start at the state forest fire tower, then work your way west into the mountain scenery of Butcher Hollow. Cruise along the serpentine course of Piney Run before rising to high, lonely hardwood ridges.

Next, drop into Clark Hollow and the Pike Run watershed. Make a long, slow ascent in a gorgeous valley, aiming for the fire tower. Your hike ends with a bang as you rise very steeply to reach the trailhead."
