South Beach Trail

South Beach Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"No matter where you stand in East Harbor State Park, you are no more than 200 yards from the water. East Harbor’s 7 miles of trails are mostly located on a peninsula, surrounded by the main body of Lake Erie to the east and natural harbors to the west. Walk along the Wetlands Trail, where boardwalks help when conditions get too muddy. Then hit the South Beach Trail and walk along inland sand dunes under towering cottonwood trees. Watch boats navigating in and out of the channel that links East Harbor and Lake Eerie. You have the option to return along the beach.

Check out the West Harbor Trail, which narrows to a spit of land less than 20 feet across with West and Middle Harbors on either side."

I have got to say, that invasive grass that surrounds most of the trail is almost all you can see. There maybe birds and waterfowl hanging-out amoungst the grass, but you would never know it. Easy walking on this trail and a nice view of the beach and Lake Erie at the tip of the pennisula. Just don't expect too much scenery prior to that. Have fun!
