Alum Creek State Park Mountain Bike Trail

Alum Creek State Park Mountain Bike Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Located twelve miles north of Columbus from the Interstate 270 beltway. There's a two-mile loop designed for beginning riders and a five-mile connecting loop for intermediate riders. You'll like testing your skills on the winding trails. There are no serious switchbacks, but ruts, roots, stumps, ditches, and a stream crossing will challenge you without being too menacing.

Among the highlights is a ridge that runs along a ravine overlooking a swampy area at the tip of a cove. On one part of the ridge, you'll take a fast curve down and, before you know it, you're on a bridge followed by a few ditches."

Trail is a good mtn bike trail, and fast from what I hear. I hiked the trail solo and while trail was actually six miles, it had varied ladscape and a few obstacles that made it fun and interesting. It is good for a quick hike in the city.

I live close to this trail system, and it actually has 2 different trail systems. The original area is called Phase II and is a total of 8 miles or so including a 2 mile little loop for beginners. It is billed as an intermediate trail with no real hills, but it does feature many logs and technical touches along the way. Phase I does not drain too well and many people still ride it wet which results in scarring. Do not ride it fora few days after a rain. Phase II drains much better and is an advanced trail. 6 miles of technical singletrack with many bridges and features including some shaved logs etc. Very twisty, no real hills, but a blast to ride. 2 laps will give you a great workout and test your skills. Great track, and also drains well. My hats off to COMBO ! they do a great job!

The trail was great for moderate riders because of its overall flat terrain. However, it does offer a challenge with occational slopes and water crossings, and Alum Creek State Park gives rides a beautiful environment to travel through.
