Portage Lakes State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Portage Lakes State Park extends from Akron’s southwest side well into the heart of Summit County. These short hikes showcase just two of the park’s many assets: its popular swim beach and little-known observatory."

I'm a JCU student and want to clear a few things up. The labyrinth is in front of Rodman Hall (check a map or ask someone where Rodman is). It isn't fully plowed in the winter, so you won't be able to see it if there's snow on the ground. That said, the campus is gorgeous: the gothic architecture is interesting and the landscaping is beautiful, especially in the fall and spring (tons of flowering trees!). The surrounding neighborhood is nice to walk around as well; University Heights and Shaker Heights both have very pretty houses ranging from Colonial to Tudor architecture. Overall, the JCU campus and surrounding area is a great place to check out architecture and people watch!

The trail guide sggested speaking with the guards at John Carol (where the walk started) - this was a useless endeavor - the guards no nothing about the "labyrinth" and even less about the college or coffee. The map provided does not include several key landmarks and buildings on the campus. Finally, the labyrinth was not there. This could have been because of Winter, but a good guide would have mentioned seasonability.
