Price Hill Catch a Sunrise

Price Hill: Catch a Sunrise Professional Review and Guide

"Cincinnati’s second-largest neighborhood, Price Hill covers more than six square miles, is home to more than 31,000 residents, and is broken up into three neighborhoods: Lower Price Hill, East Price Hill, and West Price Hill. While each neighborhood deserves its own walk, this book focuses on the Incline District in East Price Hill.

Price Hill’s growth started in the mid-19th century, as Cincinnati proper became more populated and wealthy residents looked to surrounding hillsides to escape pollution and overcrowding. After the construction of an incline at the base of 8th Street and Warsaw Avenue in 1874, thousands of residents of Irish and German descent settled here and established a thriving upper-middle-class suburb with commercial districts along Warsaw and Glenway Avenues. Originally called Bold Face Hill (reportedly for an American Indian who lived in the area), the land was owned and developed by merchant Evans Price and his son, Rees. Price Hill is a tight-knit and diverse community of immigrants, longtime residents, and first-time home buyers, with hundreds of historic houses, impressive Catholic churches, and at least 17 schools, including three large high schools."
