Beechwood to Red Oak Trail Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"One of the few hikes in Ohio accessible by public transportation, Mount Airy Forest is an oasis of greenspace within the heart of greater Cincinnati. Combine several trails to make a 3.6-mile loop around the oval picnic shelter. Take a break from the noise and crowds of the city, step onto a trail, and find solitude within minutes in Mount Airy Forest.

This is all due to the forethought of the Cincinnati Park Board, which in 1911 bought 168 acres of abused farmland around the top of Colerain Hill and embarked on the first municipal reforestation project in the United States."

Pleasant hike on an overcast then rainy day. Once we located the trail head, we found our way fairly well, athough there could be a few more trail markers.

This is a very nice, well maintained trail 5 minutes out of downtown Cincy. On this particular day, the trail was extremely wet, muddy and slippery. The trail, for the most part is fairly flat, there are a couple of places where the terrain is pretty steep, but not for very long distances, just enough to get the heart rate up. The peacefulness is great, though.

I was surprised with the proximity to the city that there were not more people on the trail. In the 1.5 hours I was out, I encountered one other person.

Once the trail is dry, I would highly recommend this for a leisure hike or a good long trail run.

I give it 3 stars for proximity to the city, peace and serenity. It's not difficult at all and would be great for kids, again when it is drier. I believe they allow dogs on leashes as well.

If you live in the CVG general area, you gotta get out and do this.

Easy but stimulating because of frequent slopes. Agreable variety (a clearing, mostly woods,a 1930s stone built vista point, a few deers). Airy foliage let the sun in. Wonderful 90 mns pre Thanksgiving dinner walk! Easy parking at entrance.

Best advice here would be go for the workout. Not much to see although 2 stars for getting within 20 feet of a deer. Sign posts were twisted around, broken over or gone. Never knew for sure which trail was which. Central Cincinnati trail is used by people looking for a workout or nice for families visitig park.

About halfway through this trail, you come to a canopy. In April there are lots of warbles in the treetops here-in the wintertime, lots of Norther Cardinals, various woodpeckers. A very pleasant walk in the middle of Cincinnati.
