Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area Oak Hill Campground Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Located on a ridge of mixed oaks and pines on the west side of Lake Vesuvius, this campground is the newest of the three in the Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area. It’s got two new flush bathrooms, new shower houses, and a new vault toilet. The campground makes a great jumping off point for all kinds of activities. It offers access to lots of hiking, for starters. A spur that leads to Rock House Cave, a grand, tunnel-like sandstone cave that was once used by Native Americans for shelter, starts here. There are all kinds of water-based activities available at Lake Vesuvius, and in fall this is a good base camp from which to enjoy some hunting. The campground is often “staffed” by volunteer campground hosts, so if you aren’t sure what to do or where best to do it, they can offer some advice."
