Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area Iron Ridge Campground Professional Review and Guide
"Iron Ridge Campground offers the hiker a lot of options. A half-mile trail connects the campground to Lake Vesuvius and all of the day-use facilities there. But that’s just the beginning. There are more than 40 miles of trails in this general area all told, with the trailheads for many located at or near the campground. If you decide to take a walk, be sure to hit Lake Shore Trail, an 8-mile loop around the lake, and the shorter trails leading to Rock House Cave, a grand, tunnel-like sandstone cave that was once used by Native Americans for shelter. There are opportunities to have fun in and on the water, too. The 143-acre Lake Vesuvius offers some pretty decent fishing for largemouth bass, crappies, bluegills, and catfish."
