Monday Creek ORV Area

Monday Creek ORV Area Professional Review and Guide

"Located in Wayne National Forest, about 15 miles northwest of Athens. Serious mountain bikers will love the ORV trails in the Monday Creek area. Over 70 miles of trails run throughout this area, a whole network of which can be found in the Dorr Run section. The trails are wide and hard-packed, but they are challenging. In fact, "Dirt Wheels," a major dirt bike magazine, rated this area in the top ten in the nation for dirt bike riding. So imagine what that must mean for mountain bikers!

You'll have to match you wits against fallen logs, rocks, moguls, gullies, tire ruts, muck, gas pipelines (don't ride on them), steep climbs, and whatever else Mother Nature can think of to throw at you. The area has a lot of history and scenery as well. You'll find strip pits off the trail, especially on the Main Corridor. Carry a topo map and a compass and plan to get lost."

The trails are typical of most in Wayne Nat. Forest, due to the heavy ORV traffic they are very well packed and make for a fast ride. Some sections have been ridin' to the point of rutting in the trail which is made worse by water. During the week there are not as many motorized vehicles. If you want to explore this a good place to do it, there are a ton of trails that connect to other trail systems. Like with other trails in Wayne you need a pass to permit you on the trails (legally).

October, with its fall colors, is a good time to ride. Also, mountain bikers might wish to come out on the weekdays to avoid the many dirt bikers on the weekends.
