Watkins Glen is one of the most beautiful and absolutely unforgettable places on earth! The many man-made elements in the park are essential to allow visitors to see and experience the fantastic work of nature.
The trails are very well maintained and generally very easy to walk. However, there are many, many stone stair steps that could present a challenge for people that are not in fairly good health.
Numerous natural whirlpools have been carved out of the bed stone by flowing water, debris and pebbles, over eons of time. These "potholes" have been beautifully polishes and simply amazing to see!
All of the natural waterfalls are breathtaking. The "engineered" waterfalls (there are several of these) are quite interesting and enjoyable. The entire gorge was carved out of countless layers of sedentary stone. The endless geological formations found here are a pure treat for the eyes and mind! The stream that created this magical place provides the soothing "music" that accompanies you throughout your hike through the gorge.
If you have never been to Watkins Glens State Park, start planning your trip now! If you have been here, you are probably already looking forward to a return visit. After four treks through the Glen, I already know that I will be back again... soon!
