"The 384-acre Horseshoe Lake averages 9 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 16 feet. Its shoreline is completely forested. The 147-acre Hitchins Pond averages 12 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 33 feet. Its western half set in the deep woods of the Five Ponds Wilderness, fringed in spots with vast bogs and marshes, the 2,844-acre Lows Lake averages 5 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 55 feet. The 125-acre Grassy Pond averages 20 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 30 feet. Gathering the flows from Lows and Horseshoe Lakes and Hitchins and Grassy Ponds, Bog River tumbles over a dam and flows east for about 7 miles to feed Tupper Lake’s south end.
