Taughannock Falls State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"When visitors to the Finger Lakes think of the region’s natural beauty, images of waterfalls, picturesque gorges, and deep glacially cut lakes spring to mind. With a dramatic waterfall, a gorge, and lake access, Taughannock Falls State Park offers all of the features outdoors enthusiasts come to expect of the Finger Lakes. The spectacular waterfall is the centerpiece of the park—at an astounding 215 feet tall, it is the highest free-falling waterfall in the Northeast. You can view it from above at a drive-up overlook as well as from below along a gorge trail that is broad, level, and accessible to most people."

The park itself has no foot trails; however, if you cross the street you'll come to a trail head that leads to the Taughannock Falls. Very easy and lovely walk on a wide trail with the creek babbling alongside you. The creek bed is accessible to walk onto. The cliffs tower above (400 ft high in some places). The waterfall, that cascades 215 ft, greets you at the end of the trail.
