Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"The 1,470-foot-long Manhattan Bridge is the youngest of the three lower East River spans, completed in 1909. Overshadowed in historical significance and renown by its southern neighbor, the Brooklyn Bridge, it gets only a fraction of that bridge’s pedestrian traffic. The Manhattan Bridge footpath, in fact, just reopened in 2001 after a 40-plus-year closure. On this walk, you reach Brooklyn via the Manhattan Bridge, get a glimpse of the up-and-coming Dumbo neighborhood as you head to the water’s edge, and then follow the river through the Ferry District and wind up beneath the Brooklyn Bridge."
