Staten Island Greenbelt

Staten Island Greenbelt Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Explore the most extensive tract of undeveloped land in the five boroughs of New York City to the city’s highest point in this epic loop. Staten Island, the baby sibling of the five boroughs, has the largest tract of wooded land in New York City. An X-shaped grouping of parks in the east central section of the island along its glacial moraines, the Staten Island Greenbelt has grown to 2,800 acres over the years, comparable to the large suburban reservations such as Watchung, South Mountain and Pound Ridge. Some private tracts on its borders help buffer and augment it."

This mid-length circuit leads into the swampy Bloodroot Valley, past old hospital buildings, and finally up to the summit of Moses Mountain, a small hill created with construction debris from the Staten Island Expressway."
