Fire Island National Seashore

Fire Island National Seashore Professional Review and Guide

"Fire Island, a barrier island, stretches 32 miles long and protects Long Island’s south shore from the punishing Atlantic. This circuit travels the beach and back bay between Smith Point and Watch Hill.

The back bay and dune swales compose Otis Pike High Dune Wilderness, the only federally designated wilderness in New York State. Flowering beach plum and heather and wild rose accent the dunes in spring. The toe of the seaward dune attracts nesting piping plovers and least terns April through August. A rich coastal landscape, wildlife, and Atlantic Ocean and Great South Bay views jampack this compelling journey."

Was a great day for a walk on the beach, lots of wild life to see. Felt really good to get out into the sun. if your looking for a nice walk not on a mtn trail this is one worth it. But I would wait till Fall or early spring before the crowds.
