Pharaoh Mountain and Lake Loop

Pharaoh Mountain and Lake Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"In the Schroon Lake area of the Eastern Adirondacks, this all- day or overnight hike tags the summit of Pharaoh Mountain and encircles large, deep Pharaoh Lake, touring mixed forest and wetland meadows.

Summit and shore vistas, swimming and trout fishing, an expansive marsh, convenient overnight lean- tos, prized solitude, and fall color swell this Pharaoh’s treasure cache."

"The lean-tos and designated campsites along the shores of Pharaoh Lake are some of the best in the Adirondacks. The sheer number of sites in this virtual wilderness campground means that you will likely find a spot even on busy holiday weekends. If you crave solitude, choose an off-peak weekend or shy away from the lean-tos and pick a remote tent site. The designated sites and lean-tos are nearly all next to the shore with excellent views, and it’s clear why they are popular." Read more

The mountain portion is very steep and difficult, especially with a backpack. It's not called "strenuous" just because of the length!

There is a blue-marked trail along the west shore that is not shown on the map of this trail guide. This trail could be used to create a shorter loop going over the summit and then along just the west shore.
