Saranac Lake Islands Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"In the language of the Iroquois, Saranac is said to mean “cluster of stars.” These days, the word conjures different feelings in most New Yorkers. Nearly every grocery and convenience store in the state stocks brews made by Saranac Beer, known for its ales, lagers, and stouts. Brewed by Matt Brewing Company in the city of Utica, the beverages are made, as the website claims, from “the pure water that flows from the Adirondacks and the grains that grow in its unspoiled soil.” Saranac Lakes, a charming village west of Lake Placid, does nothing to sully the brewery’s reputation. Its three lakes (Upper, Middle, and Lower) are among the mountains’ most beautiful."
