Honeoye Creek and Genesee River Rush to Scottsville

Honeoye Creek and Genesee River (Rush to Scottsville) Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Honeoye Creek was a clear-water stream lined in sand and seaweed by mid-July. There are lots of twists in the channel and small islands around which to paddle. We had to do 5 easy portages to get around downed trees and logjams. You'll paddle through the greenery of grass banks and arrowhead plants. We repeatedly saw deer standing in the waterway, getting a summer drink. The Genesee River is wide and deep, in high mud banks, with no discernable current in July. It’s easy padding to the take-out."

Putting in below the dam was easy. So was forgetting the keys for the getaway car. Early June saw the creek at a good level, but not fast. Some minor 'rapids' if you can call them that and some shallows.

A plethora of wildlife. Canada geese, harks, Baltimore orioles, out kingfisher guides, great blue herons, white tail deer, and a beautiful boxer.

Three deadfalls, all between the first and second put-in spots, had us out of our yaks. The first has a fairly easy trail on the left and the second had a fairly easy portage on the right, but both were in fairly rapid succession on a wide oxbow. You may be able to get out on the right At the first one and do one portage.
