Mills Mills Falls Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Roger Mills of Canajoharie, Montgomery County built the first mill on the upper falls of Wiscoy Creek beginning in 1806. First he erected a log cabin home. The following year he dammed the creek and erected his sawmill. In 1808 he added a gristmill, transporting stone and castings from Albany by sleigh. Farmers and Indians came from as far as 40 miles away, hauling their grain by oxen to be ground at the mill. Mills’ mills became a center of activity. In addition to the milling services, the Mills offered stock goods for sale, hotel services, and mail distribution. Today, an old sluiceway is still visible across the dam."
